Sometimes called “Swedish” massage, Relaxation Massage introduces calming techniques and soothing strokes into superficial layers of skin and muscle. It may include other techniques, such as vibration or friction to illicit the release of chemicals and brain signals that make muscles and organs slow down, blood flow to the brain increase, and circulation improve. Relaxation massage is common in basic treatment of the body where advanced techniques or deeper pressure may not be necessary. The sense of well-being comes with the calming of fears and alleviating mental or emotional stress.
To counteract the ancient response of the brain while under attack, the brain needs “re-programming” to reset it’s reaction skills. Massage provides such re-programming tools to our brain. To fully incorporate the new habits in the brain, more than one or two treatments will likely be needed to re-learn our reaction to daily “assault” in our modern world.
